Each week Bakery Feeds recycles thousands of tons of bakery waste (including breads, cereals and snack products) into a high-energy animal feed called Cookie Meal®. Cookie Meal is marketed as a corn replacement in poultry, swine and dairy diets.

The waste collected by Bakery Feeds contains a fair amount of packaging. This material is used as fuel, producing billion of BTUs of energy each year. Bakery Feeds is the only company that recycles this packaging for reuse, preventing tons of waste from entering landfills.

Bakery Feeds and its parent company, Griffin Industries, have certified their plants through Audubon’s Cooperative Sanctuary System. Certification validates the positive impact the company's operations have on wildlife habitat and water quality as well as other stringent conversation guidelines. Thousands of acres of Griffin Industries’ and Bakery Feeds’ company property are designated as wildlife sanctuaries.

Employees also play an active role in environmental issues. Each plant is involved in outreach and education efforts within their respective communities, sharing ideas and successes for sound environmental stewardship practices.
